According to this little article I found online, solar panel study and production dates all the way back to the 1880s. To me, this was very shocking considering how modern the entire concept of converting solar energy into electricity is. Looking back at this I've realized how far ahead we've come in terms of technology and how much better we've made solar panels. Based on this info, I have inferred that perhaps whatever we try to improve with this new solar concept, although very small, it will be something that in about 100 years people in the future will study. Today was more of a looking back at how far we've come in terms on study and production type of day...

Over the weekend my family and I went to the Philip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and I was able to see how solar panels actually work. For our project, we somehow have to incorporate little gears into the solar panel design so that it can properly produce electricity. So far the several designs we've been having haven't incorporated this but we are working on that for the next design.

Today I worked on what is the weekly report for the project, I explain not only what I've done but also what I've used for it, who helped, etc. This is what helps us keep track of what it is that we do per week and how much we've advanced in the project since we started with our idea in August. As far as our research teacher has told us, we need to have finished the models and our research which is exactly what we've done for the past few weeks. As of now I've looked into the second possible design that I could have for our project and my team members are further working on the research required.

Based on the data I was able to gather, placing two of the cheapest solar panels on the magnet building roof would provide this type of efficiency, the only problem is that this is just some information gathering based on the school so there is no real price or efficiency for a normal house. My team's goal is to improve the efficiency while also maintaining the cheap price for the panel so people can get the best savings for their money.

Today I didn't go to school due to certain things that had to be taken care of outside of school. I should be back on Tuesday since it's a regular school day.

Today I went more in-depth regarding the actual design we want for our solar panels. As we know, technology is increasing more and more every day, which means that every year scientists are working on new solar panel designs that appeal to the general public in price, quality, and efficiency. By looking at each of these three designs, the second one appeals to me the most because of its elegant and subtle design and appearance. Perhaps it could be the cheapest of the three, I'd have to research more about that. Now all that is left for me is to discuss with my teammates about which design we ALL agree with so we can carry on with creating it on SolidWorks.

Today I mostly decided to focus on researching more regarding solar panels and how efficient they actually are in terms of how much energy they produce. Last class, I began 3D printing the model of the original solar panel, soon I will begin working on what kind of designs I can incorporate into it to actually make it twice as effective. As far as the rest of the project goes, my team and I are continuing to gather more data on the matter as well as coming up with a name for our project altogether.
